This is my version of the insignia for the Strategic Scientific Reserve that will be a featured in the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger. According to the story, the SSR was responsible for initiating the Super Solider Program that made Steve Rodgers into Captain America, under the direction of Howard Stark.
After seeing the "canon" insignia, I chose to back to the drawing board to accomplish two goals:
1. To make the insignia look like it would fit into the World War II timeline while still looking modern by todays standards.
2. Since it is generally accepted that the SSR was a pre-cursor to S.H.I.E.L.D., I wanted the insignia to appear as a "first version" of the S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia, that would evolve into the S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia that we all know today.
